What about a waterlink into Swansea Waterfront SA1?
The Tawe Barrage is shown on the right. A proposed new canal link can be seen to the left. This would connect the River Tawe to the Prince of Wales Dock - now part of world class "SA1 SWANSEA WATERFRONT" being developed by the Welsh Assembly Government. The proposed water link from the River Tawe will only be built if funding is available. The Swansea Community Boat Trust fully supports the exciting prospect of a new marina in the former Prince of Wales Dock. A new marina entrance, directly connected to the sea, is presently being constructed. A nice touch is that this uses the long-forgotten and infilled original entrance to the dock.click the picsTawe River Navigation and "SA1 Swansea Waterfront", showing the new entrances.
An opportunity now exists to open up an entirely new leisure market - rediscovering the historic inland waterways of the Swansea area. Linking Swansea Waterfront to the Tawe River Navigation will bring boats and activity to make it an exciting place. People will go by water taxi to the National Waterfront Museum, the Liberty Stadium, and other leisure venues such as the pubs and restaurants around the Swansea Waterfront.
The Swansea Community Boat will bring to life the waterspace of "SA1 Swansea Waterfront".
The Welsh Assembly Government are making a superb job of SA1 SWANSEA WATERFRONT. We are confident that they will seize the opportunity to make the project even more special, by providing a direct waterlink to the River Tawe and Swansea's Maritime Quarter, as soon as funding is available.
